The Finnibar Process: Building in Layers
Some pieces don’t start with a clear plan.
They start with a feeling.
A fragment.
Something that doesn’t fully make sense yet—but feels like it’s worth exploring.
That’s how this piece began.
building in layers
The Finnibar process, for me, is less about creating something perfect and more about allowing something to take shape over time.
It’s layered.
Textural.
A mix of materials, moments, and decisions that don’t always feel connected at first.
Paint.
Paper.
Found elements.
Pieces added, removed, covered, revealed.
Each layer shifts the direction just a little.
part of the process
There’s a point in the middle where it looks like nothing.
Where it feels unfinished, messy, maybe even a little chaotic.
That part matters.
That’s where the piece starts to become something more than the original idea.
letting it evolve
I don’t always know what the final piece will look like when I start.
And I’ve learned not to rush that.
The process is the work.
Letting it build.
Letting it change.
Letting it surprise me.
where it starts to take shape
By the end, it’s not just one idea—it’s a collection of decisions, layers, and moments that came together over time.
And that’s what I love about it.
Not just the final piece…
but everything it took to get there.
